With Enlightenment launching this month, Tuesdays and Fridays have now become strategy days on Black Belt Poker and the first article is now up courtesy of Blue Belt and Enlightenment Sensei Simon Mairs:

http://www.blackbeltpoker.com/articles/read/Strategy-HUD-Stats

After offering players a free Hold'em Manager, it has emerged that a number of Enlightenment students aren't particularly acquainted with it nuances, so Simon Mairs has been hard on the case to explain how some of the stats can be used to your advantage, and why it is such a crucial piece of software.

I have set myself 3 goals, which are :-
1) Beating micro stake cash games
2) Beating micro stake sit n go games
3) Beating micro stake tourney games

And when I am at a stage when I am constantly beating these games then I will up to low.

The advice I would like is what type of game should I concentrate on first or should I do all 3 at the same time.

To help achieve my goals, I am doing the dojo session on beating micro/low cash game, Reading articles on bbp, going to the academies & going to be purchasing dan harrington books on cash & tourney games.

Is there anything else I should be doing/learning from or should not be doing

As each area requires slightly different skills and expertise I would focus on 1. Which in all honest I think should prob be cash, as generally speaking cash is the more skillful variant and if you can beat that then you can prob beat the other 2.

Depends where your at in your developement really. Micro tournies are probably the easiest to beat, then SNG, then cash.

Ok I dont automatically hit addon everytime I get to that point. I do a sort of cost-benefit analysis. I generally find that in tournaments with under 150 runners with 1500 starting chips and 2000 addon, the actual addition of 2000 chips (following a reasonable 1st session) makes not a lot of difference to your chance of finishing ITM or TID. The reason why is that whether you have 8k or 10k after break 1, you will still need to double up and win your allins at least 3 times to get yourself into a good position on the FT, if you dont do this then having another 2k chips with a low M doesnt really make any difference at all.

Hi people,NEXT GRADINGS.when i was at poker in the park on thursday,i heard rumours that the next gradings will be in November and the lucky few will get a trip to Australia,is there any infomation about this?

Neil Channing posted on 7 Sep, 9:33am
I'm hoping we'll be announcing the details of this on Monday. Basically the Pre-Grading will be held in October, probably beginning around the 8th and The Grading will be between November 1st and December 12th. There will be three workshop days that will probably be held on Thursdays.

We hope to pick three new Brown Belts, probably from 40 Graders who start the full Grading.

Our Brown Belts will go to Australia with a £10k package.

We will also pick a number of Blue and Green Belts.

More details will follow on Monday.

brighton here - have the rendezvouz, mint and grosvenor to choose from - prefer the rendezvouz but most games are beyond my bankroll - usually play the friday night £40 FO which i can just afford - a good mix of players dealer dealt between 70 - 100 runners, other venues are self deal.

The question you have to answer for yourselves is;

Do you want an elitist type feeling for your sponsered players or a team?

The packages offered will reflect your aims Imo.

As the saying goes you can't please all of the players all of the time.

A couple of points:-

I think that as part of the pre-grading you can have an interview, if only using a video skype. It is still a fac e to face communication.

From someone who would have to travel, then it might be helpfull if we can find somewhere to stay or bulk book but I am prepared to pay, however would like to save as much as possible as it is all out of my poker bankroll.

Any normal grading does not set a number of belts people should get. You simply get which ever belt you deserve to get. Maybe that is a way of dealing with this issue.

Personnally if the prize was generous it would want me to stay since the value at the site is better than others, however not everyone thinks that was or is as loyal as a hobbit (i'm not saying that I only play on BBP but at least 75% is).

We're going to be putting out details of the new Grading Period on Monday.

The dates being maybe the most important thing I just thought I'd let you guys know in advance:

8th-17th October Pre-Grading

1st November-12th December The Grading Period.

Three workshop days will be held in London, probably on the 4th Nov, 18th Nov, 2nd Dec.

15th December decision day.

January - Our three new Brown Belts fly to Melbourne for the Aussie Millions on a £10k package.

Some other candidates will be selected as Green and Blue Belts.

All of these dates will be confirmed on Monday, when we'll have fuller details of the whole process.

My dongle is my only connection, and sparing a few freezes it's been fine. Re the IP issue, I regularly play on 4 different connections and have never had an account frozen, as long as there's nothing suspect going on I think you'd be fine.

on iPoker, if you connect on one ISP and then have to reconnect on a different ISP then you cannot log back in for 5 minutes. Not too bad on cash games or MTT but a bugger for STT !

Hi,

Playing a very unusual structure of a tournament tomorrow and would be very interested in hearing peoples thoughts on the best strategy to adopt.

Starting Stack 10,000 - Each player also gets a reserve stack of 10,000 which they can use if they bust in the first three levels or else as a top up after the first three levels ( Note you cannot choose to start with a 20,000 stack you must wait until you lose your first 10,000 before using the reserve stack)

First three levels are 20 minutes
Level 1 500/1000
Level 2 300/600
Level 3 200/400

After level 3 the blind levels extend to 30 minutes and the blinds will remain 100/200 for the remainder of the tournament with only the size of the antes increasing.

You can see the full structure here https://www.biggamepoker.net/Tournament/SYDCHAMPS10_Event5TsandCs550NLH.pdf

I think it is a very interesting idea and like I said would love to hear peoples thoughts.

Cheers,
Eoin

Nice to see your still around Eoin. Interesting format.

Just thinking out loud but gut thinks something like this.... Assuming you only have a max of 2 buy ins, 1 starting and 1 reserve. I think it'll be a crap shoot either way but level 1.. I think its a case of using the first stack to try survive as long as possible to level 2 or 3 if you can before your reload puts you on a bigger stack in relation to blinds.

I can't see any sense in gambling early so avoid thin edges. As you start in a 10 BB structure (like a hyper turbo) even if you take the risk of a double up your still on only 20BB's where as a reload in either stage 2 or 3 does the same. Should you use your reserve in level 1 your back to 10BB push fold straight away and you'll have very little FE vs everyone as they'll be more keen to get there dwindling stack in.

I would use and abuse the time bank in level 1 to the max and stall as much as possible to get to level 2. With around 2.5-4 BB I wouldn't pass a shoveable hand.

I imagine most of the field will be bust by end of level 1 anyhow so getting through that gives you more room and time to chip up. Post level 3 get after them antes and keep an eye on your M.

.... my first thoughts anyhow

Eoin Kennedy posted on 7 Sep, 1:29am
Hi,

Thanks for the thoughts, Martin the antes only kick in from level 5 onwards, Gavin yes this is a live tournament,

The general idea seems to be to play push/fold in level 1 but a tighter push/fold than normal with 10BB. After that tightish through levels 2 and 3 trying to keep the top up available for after level 3 if possible.

From there on general tournament strategy based on M.

It starts in about an hour, i'll post an update after to say how it goes

Thanks,
Eoin
